Realtastic x512 [PBR][POM] is a resource pack that creates realistic textures for blocks and items. It globally transforms the game, adding detail and depth. The project requires OptiFine to work. How the changes are implemented

Despite the focus on realism, the implementation is quite unusual. The original block textures are used as a base. If you look closely, you'll see familiar 16x pixel textures underneath. But on top of them are new textures. As a result, each individual pixel contains many smaller details that blend together successfully. Whether this is a good approach or not is a debatable question. It’s best to judge for yourself by seeing it in-game or through the image collection below.

Graininess

As you move around the world or view large scenes, you’ll inevitably notice visual noise. Sometimes it's subtle, but in other cases it’s more distracting. Due to the high pixel density, there is a visual overload. This is especially noticeable in darker tones. So when you look out over, say, a grassy field, you might be unpleasantly surprised by constant grain and small speckles on screen. Unfortunately, this can’t be avoided.

Verdict

It might seem like Realtastic x512 [PBR][POM] has more drawbacks than advantages. But that’s not really the case. The high-resolution layering offers a beautiful visual style — albeit an unusual one. And the near-complete replacement of default blocks and items avoids harsh contrast between old and new textures. Still, it’s worth noting that the project has its weak points.
