Zombie

Let’s start with the most common enemy. The undead familiar to the player are green, stiff, and resemble the player. But this approach barely conveys its theme. Now it is a rotting corpse with exposed flesh. Bones and a distorted face, of which almost nothing remains, are visible. It also moves its limbs chaotically. The dead have no deliberate movements, so they move solely by instinct. Whether it is a player or a villager— the zombie follows them, spontaneously flailing its arms and constantly bending. But their most terrifying feature is limb loss. When taking damage, they have a chance to lose their arms or head without dying. This truly instills horror. Added to this are several unusual death variations, which together make each of them slightly more unique.

Skeleton

This enemy in the original game always lacked realistic modeling. Bones differ in size and have volume that cannot be represented by a flat model. The author worked on this, and now the skeleton has not only a formed and detailed skeleton but also two variations. One somewhat resembles the base version, while the other wears a tattered cloak covering its upper body. Each of them also has glowing lights in the eyes, hinting at necromantic magic used to raise them. On top of that, chaotic animations have been added, making you feel as if you're fighting a well-crafted, albeit primitive enemy.

Spider

From here on, it may get tough for arachnophobes. The updated spiders are much larger than their standard counterparts. Only regular spiders are affected; cave (poisonous) spiders remain unchanged. The new variants have a bright green (and not only green) pattern on their bodies, as well as a large abdomen. Mandibles are also present, something vanilla spiders severely lacked. But the most frightening thing about them is their animations. The movement of their small pairs of legs truly causes unpleasant sensations. Especially when these creatures chase you. They also sway from side to side, which can be disorienting. It feels as if spiders gained some form of tactics and subtle moves, even though they still use the same single primitive leaping attack.

Wither Skeleton

For those who don’t know, withers are a variation of skeletons found in the Nether. They are much larger than their Overworld relatives, and the high temperatures of their habitat clearly blacken their bones. Moreover, they are not archers but melee fighters equipped with long swords. Here, however, the author expanded this concept even further. Blue's Better Monsters LITE grants them shields. While withers do not actively use them, this item complements their image as fortress defenders and emphasizes melee combat even more. As for the model itself, it has become much more mystical. It even has rusty armor in the form of shoulder plates, and in some places you can see concentrated lava clots on various parts of the skeleton.

Witch

This mob has been reworked more than any other. Now she no longer resembles her original form at all. The old lady became noticeably shorter, but gained several familiar popular attributes: a broom, a sack, and a black cat. Her face is covered with warts, and the sound is complemented by an unpleasant laugh. Among all enemies, she is the most memorable. It feels as if she interacts with her own items, using them when encountering the player. The only visible part of her body is her face. It is covered in warts and gray hair, giving the image even more character. A visible tremor also suggests old age and frailty in her limbs.

Creeper

The only mob capable of competing with the witch in its redesign. It only vaguely resembles the original, but looks far more terrifying. For starters, its body is covered with additional limb-heads, and a huge hole is punched through its abdomen, showing emptiness inside. Its face appears to contain burning fire, as the edges of its features constantly shift. And its horrifying feature is the ability to transform. The creeper can take the appearance of another mob (for example, a zombie) and use this to catch the player off guard. At the last moment, right before exploding, it can transform back and create the most memorable boom of your life. All of this, of course, is accompanied by very juicy and fluid animation.

Impressions of Blue's Better Monsters LITE

This is truly a project that makes a significant step forward in rethinking and reworking monsters. Yes, it affects only a small portion of them, but it is clear that a huge amount of work was put into each enemy, making encounters with them unique. From primitive zombies to advanced witches, each enemy can show something the player is not used to seeing from their base counterparts.
