By default in Minecraft, players can store various types of food in any containers (chests, barrels, shulkers), some modified versions of chests, and not worry that the food will somehow spoil. There are no refrigerators here and not even a hint of something similar. But many players prefer to install mods that bring survival closer to more realistic conditions in order to immerse themselves in the gameplay and enjoy some altered mechanics. For this, separate servers are even created where you can survive in hardcore style or in similar variants. And in this review you will get another similar mod…
The Spoiled addon adds a mechanic of food spoilage to the game. If you don’t store it in shulkers, then after about a day it will start to disappear, and in this case you will no longer get the effect of restoration or any other buffs in the game. You will have to watch where the food is stored, constantly control this process, and even at the start of survival the player will have an important goal: to find shulker shells to make at least one full chest for food storage. Additionally, many parameters can be configured in the configuration file, both for the client and the server. A convenient functionality that allows you to make realistic food spoilage not only in single player mode, but also on your project if you are a server owner.
Now all food will spoil by default in the game. This happens in about 1 game day. To prevent it from disappearing, you must store all food in shulkers. This is an alternative to refrigerators, which is most suitable for vanilla survival, although there are separate mods that add full-fledged cold storage rooms and modern equipment to the game world. This mod has a completely different goal: to make food a more important resource and motivate players to store it in shulkers, which will have to be obtained in the End. Accordingly, from the very first minutes of the game, you need to try to get into this dimension in order to kill several shulkers there and make yourself a chest, otherwise all previously found food will spoil.
The new mechanic applies to almost all known food items: meat, vegetables, fruits, and much more. However, when writing this material we tested the functionality of this mod and saw that cakes do not spoil. In the configuration file you have access to the display of food spoilage (disabled by default). You need to go to the client settings for the Spoiled mod to activate this option. Then when hovering over any product the degree of spoilage will be displayed. A convenient feature for vanilla survival that allows you to quickly understand which types of food spoil, so that you can immediately take them to a shulker.
In the settings of this mod you can specify which containers will preserve food. If by default it is only shulkers, then when using third-party mods you can also use some other items. For example, various types of addons are created for Minecraft that add full-fledged refrigerators and modern appliances, technology. Just imagine how all this can be played out if you combine this mod with technology. There are quite a few different addons that integrate various functional items for storing food into the vanilla world, both in a modern style and in more primitive variants.
The developer of this mod created it primarily for different modpacks, so that users could create their own builds or use some ready-made variants, and there add food spoilage and appropriate containers that allow preserving the “normal state” of food. It will be possible to use various blocks for cooling, involve the popular Create mod to create universal mechanisms, some third-party addons with functional furniture. In the vanilla version of the game, however, it will be difficult to immediately find yourself a shulker box to store food in, but the developer chose this container because other options are not suitable: in chests and barrels all resources in the game are already stored, and the choice is small.
If you have your own server and want to diversify survival on it, be sure to add the Spoiled mod to this build so that players can try a more realistic version of the game. They will have to use different types of containers to store food (those that you specify in the configuration file, including modified versions). Here you can already use additional extensions for different types of furniture, appliances, to make full-fledged refrigerators. With such functionality, players can easily create their own shops, production buildings, factories and many other types of structures, using the simple functionality of food spoilage in Minecraft!
