There are several dimensions in Minecraft for the player to move between: the regular world, the Nether and the End (Ender), and to teleport from the regular world to the hell (the Nether), you need to create a portal first; however, you need obsidian for it. The player needs a diamond pickaxe to get this material, as it’s the strongest block in the game, and ordinary pickaxes won’t do here. But if you fail to accumulate the required number of obsidian blocks at the beginning or just want to slightly change the standard scheme of creating portals to the Hell, install the Smaller Nether Portals mod, which we’re going to discuss in this review!

The Smaller Nether Portals add-on will add absolutely new types of portals to Minecraft, which you can craft from the same materials. However, the number of blocks required to craft the «box» is by times less. These can be low portals or narrow ones, and it’s up to you to decide, which option to prefer. As a result, you can save on a certain amount of obsidian and make a new kind of «boxes», which affects the overall decor and design of buildings, as many players install portals to the hell right in their homes, and try to somehow «decorate» these structures so that they fit into the general style of the building.

The Smaller Nether Portals mod adds new types of portals to the game, namely : 1 by 2, 1 by 3, and 2 by 2 in size, which you can craft in any dimension, both in the Lower World and in the regular one. The main task of the author of this add-on is to make it possible to craft a portal to the hell faster and go exploring a new world. Now, you’ll have to spend several times less obsidian to move to the Nether. The teleportation procedure is the same as in the vanilla version: go to the portal, wait a few seconds and you are transferred to the hell. In general, these are all the functions added to the game, and you need to install other mods if you want something more.

Sometimes, an error may arise in smaller portals when the player is teleported from the other side, that is, in front of the frame, but this isn’t a particularly severe bug in Minecraft, so one can put up with this problem. In the screenshots, we’ve demonstrated you what types of portals you can now create in Minecraft, since many players are used to the standard portal, and even after installing the Smaller Nether Portals mod, they can’t immediately understand what they should look like. However, the interaction principle is the same. By the way, don’t forget that you need a lighter to activate even small structures.

It all resulted in an interesting and useful mod that doesn’t significantly affect the overall gameplay of Minecraft, but facilitates general survival in the cubic world. In general, you could create an obsidian generator by mixing lava (you can collect it in mines even in the regular world) and water, since there are plenty of ways to create such structures even in Minecraft 1.21 although Mojang developers sometimes «fix» old schemes so that they stop working. The capabilities of Smaller Nether Portals allow you not only to build a portal to the Lower World faster, but also to just create it in a certain proportion so that this building fit the overall style of your constructions and interior. Unlike before when we had to adjust to some common standards in the vanilla version of the Minecraft game, now, after installing this add-on, you can choose what size it will be and how to «squeeze» it into the overall design of the project. For example, many players create entire rooms where the portal is located, with different types of decorations, frames, hidden passages, and other objects around it.
