How can you tell how much health a mob you're attacking has left? In vanilla Minecraft, there is no such feature, so you have to roughly estimate by the number of hits how many more attacks are needed to kill the creature. You also need to know the health of your tamed pets. If you bring them along, that’s a whole different story. So what can you do? You need to use additional mods that offer this functionality, and one such tool is described in this article. There are many different mods for Minecraft that display HP bars, but they differ in style and features.
The Health Bar Indicator mod adds a separate health bar indicator for mobs, allowing you to see how much HP a mob has. It displays a bar so you can easily understand the health of players, hostile mobs, neutral, and friendly creatures. It supports not only vanilla mobs but also mobs from other mods. For example, in the screenshots, you can see mobs from the Living Things mod, which adds many new creatures. You can always check their health with this mod.
It’s unclear why Mojang decided not to include health bars for mobs, especially tamed animals like dogs, cats, or parrots. If you face this problem too, you can install this mod. It’s very simple, clear, and most importantly: looks good. The mod supports multiple styles, mostly differing in color schemes. By default, after installing Health Bar Indicator, all health bars over mobs are red. But you can easily change the style with a command (explained at the end of this article).
This mod has many uses. Here are a few examples:
Important to know! The Health Bar Indicator mod allows you to customize the appearance using a command. Press T to open chat and enter: /function diesse:hb/config. You can enter the full command /function diesse:hb/config/add to change the color. The color is selected automatically, and changes are applied immediately. When you approach a mob, you will see the new color. The fill is simple, without textures or complex gradients. Colors can be blue, green, red, etc., chosen to blend well with the environment.
Health indicators in Minecraft are very important for gameplay, allowing players to quickly get data on any creature, including other players. This gives valuable info during arena fights or survival, helping you analyze situations better. Overall, this mod is useful not only at the start of survival but anytime—for building farms, monitoring pets’ health, or testing mods and creatures.
