In Minecraft, many players teleport to the Nether not just for bartering with piglins or searching for netherite and bastions. Here, you can also find ghast tears, and often you have to build full farms if you need large quantities of this resource. This ingredient is used in potion brewing, and in vanilla Minecraft, it’s a very important effect. But farming ghast tears the standard way is time-consuming and not very exciting, right? In this article, we’ll review a unique mod that completely changes the way you collect this type of resource from ghasts!

The Crying Ghasts mod allows ghasts to drop tears periodically over time. That means you don’t need to kill the mob: they will occasionally fall from its eyes, and this is an intentional mechanic from the mod author. As soon as the creature starts crying, tears will fall from it, and the player just needs to collect them. However, the ghast’s standard behavior hasn’t changed—it will still shoot fireballs at players! In this review, we not only describe but also show how this system works and its key advantages.

How do you usually get ghast tears in Minecraft? You have to go to the Nether, find a ghast, and try to shoot it with a bow to get a drop. But often the tears fall into lava, which is found in most Nether biomes. This creates serious problems. More experienced players build ghast farms to get tears in larger amounts. But that requires knowledge and a deep understanding of the game. Another option is to use a ready-made solution from third-party developers who have changed the default ghast behavior and added unique features to it.

Now in the Nether, ghasts will drop tears periodically, as if the creature is crying. Each tear will fall downward, and you’ll be able to collect them for use in potions or other types of crafting. The mod developer has added a configurable list of parameters that control how and when ghasts will drop tears in the game:
· maxDistanceToGhastBlocks (default = 32, min = 1, max = 256): The distance at which the player must stand for the ghast to drop tears. If you are within 31 blocks, it won’t drop them; at 32 or more, it will. Players can customize this distance to suit their needs;
· ghastTearDelayTicks (default = 1200, min = 1, max = 72000): Delay between tear drops, where 1 second = 20 ticks. You can configure how often the mob cries and drops tears.

At the same time, the vanilla behavior of ghasts remains: they fly around and attack players. You’ll need to both track where the tears are falling and defend yourself from fireballs—without killing the ghast. If the ghast dies, there's still a chance it will drop a tear, and the amount depends on the enchantments on your bow or sword if you kill it in melee. In the end, you get two ways of obtaining ghast tears, and you decide which to use. The Crying Ghasts mod also offers the following:
· Server Events: You can use this mod on multiplayer servers to organize tear-collecting competitions. This not only tests parkour skills and awareness but also involves boss fights where defense is crucial;
· New Farm Creation: Although tears drop based on a specific mechanic, you can still build farms for passive collection by trapping the ghast in a few chunks and leaving the player AFK;

· Detailed Configuration: Each player can configure the mod based on their playstyle—how much time they can spend in-game, how often they log in, and whether it’s single-player or multiplayer. All the available config file options are described above;
· Loot Distribution: In vanilla Minecraft, there are many ways to bring a ghast into the Overworld. If a player manages to do that, they can host a loot giveaway by letting everyone near the ghast collect tears as they fall.

In the end, we get a really cool and unusual mod for Minecraft that slightly improves the game mechanics and adds a new way to collect tears. Whether you decide to build farms or just run around and catch the drops doesn’t matter. Every player gets more gameplay options, and thanks to mods like this, you can refresh Minecraft with just a few clicks. Just keep in mind that enchantments on your weapon won’t affect the amount of tears dropped using the new mechanic—you’ll have to rely on luck or tweak the config to make the ghast cry more often.
