In Minecraft's desert, there aren't many locations and structures to interact with, such as desert temples, wells, and peaceful villages. And if a player ends up in such a biome, unfortunately, there isn’t much to do here: you mine sand and sandstone to later sell it to other players. To draw users' attention to these territories, you can install a separate mod that slightly changes the structure and adds new possibilities for desert wells. In the vanilla version, they are generally unused, and mostly random players end up here. Now, however, everyone will have a reason…

The Better Desert Well modification changes desert wells in the game by adding a “magic funnel”. Throwing a random item into it will also give you a random reward, and this is a really cool mechanic for the vanilla version of the game, where there’s always randomness, random events, and luck. For multiplayer projects, this approach helps attract additional players to these biomes, and simply diversifies gameplay. However, this mod has its own specific limitations that you need to be aware of to fully utilize such structures in the game world. Ready to try it?

By default, there’s not much to get in the desert except temples and treasure rooms, if a player happens to stumble upon such a structure in the game world. So, this biome doesn’t attract players much. In practice, people mostly come here for sand and sandstone, and on servers, these territories are often completely “stripped,” leaving only ruins, since sand is limited across the world and gradually gets collected from different biomes, leaving behind only regular dirt blocks. But in the vanilla version of Minecraft, there is a chance for a desert well to spawn, and its generation probability is really low — about 1 in 500. The mod’s developer decided to play off this mechanic and slightly modify it.

By installing the Better Desert Well add-on, you give some players the opportunity to get rich, since they can exchange random items for other ones, relying solely on luck. Now, any desert well generated by default on the map can give out resources. You just need to walk up to it and throw some items into the water. There’s a magic funnel there that sucks in the contents and gives something else in return. What exactly — no one knows, and it’s really “pure randomness,” though the mod developer occasionally releases new versions and adjusts the contents of the mod.

Finding a well in the desert is no easy task, and you really need luck to come across such a structure. Even in creative mode you can’t locate these places easily, because they don’t have an ID. Accordingly, a player can only fly around in creative and look for where such structures are generated. As you can see, the location itself is unique and unusual, though in the vanilla version of the game it didn’t hold any real value. But after installing the mod, if you find such a well, you can exchange items by simply throwing random resources or blocks into the water. They’re automatically sucked into the funnel and disappear, and you receive something else in return.

This mechanic provides an opportunity to get rich — but not for everyone. Most likely, players who find the wells in Minecraft won’t tell others about their discovery, otherwise everyone would come here to make exchanges. To trade, you only need one random item, and you can do as many of these trades as you want. It’s up to you to decide “when to stop.” If you want to diversify the standard Minecraft server gameplay and add something new, this tool is perfect for that: extremely simple functionality, but the structure's location is hard to find.

In general, the desert itself doesn’t stand out much, and there are very few structures here, so players need to be attracted with extra possibilities: new locations, mobs, resources. For example, you can also install the Feur - Extension Desert mod, which transforms these biomes and adds pyramids of Cheops, the Arena of Anubis, and many other options. It’s a great way to diversify the content and add something new for players. And the wells will become one of the motivations for users, as they’re essentially a “Holy Grail” that allows you to constantly exchange various goods, get rid of junk, and receive other blocks or items.

If you’ve already installed this mod, feel free to share in the comments which items you managed to get, how many trades you’ve made, and how often you visit the desert if you're playing on a server. Other players will be interested to know your results and just see concrete examples of loot found in desert wells. Despite developers updating vegetation in recent versions, these remain some of the least visited biomes, and people mostly come here only for resources…
